By the way what is the speed you get on 5ghz ? Assuming you're close to it

Just tested, next to the router I get 420Mbps using a macbook pro 2015 model (copying files to a NAS storage drive).

So file transfers happen at between 35MB/s and 52MB/s.

This is in the context of my fibre line, which only downloads at 4.5MB/s (On 40Mbps product over here).

So yes you can easily pull full speeds wirelessly.

That said, where I use my laptop normally is 4 walls thick away, and doesn't even get 5Ghz signal. I just use 2.4Ghz and get slow speeds. At some stage I will run an ethernet cable and setup a second AP.

That would be good to test with Ethernet cable to check if speed is different to 5ghz

Macbook does not have an ethernet cable unfortunately else I would give it a whirl.

They are selling HG635s on ebay for £25 posted on Buy It Now. It's worth a go, given the net loss isn't that high if it fails.
