Re: Extension for fibre modem from master socket.

That cable is almost certainly a patch lead type and not really what you want.

The patress price is a rip-off.

Depending on which sockets you go for you might get away with a 16mm: http://www.screwfix.com/p/mk-1-gang-surface-pattress... or if that is too shallow a 30mm http://www.screwfix.com/p/mk-1-gang-surface-pattress...

The modular face plate: https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/MKK0181.html MK k181

And then find a suitable module to insert - the RS one is fine, albeit straight out rather than 45 degree and they also do an RJ11 version.. If you get to a local electrical wholesaler, you will get similar prices and they will have a module to insert - that is the easiest way.

If you like Lindy, they will do the job however I am not a fan of theirs.

I just found this actually
CW1724, RJ11 connector/faceplate/back box...[censored] connector that I don't need since I have a krone-type punchdown tool...
looks good to me?

That looks a good choice. I've had quite a few orders from run-IT-direct and they've always delivered quickly.

FWIW, I've recently installed a data extension using about 10m of Cat 5e and there was no measurable drop in speed.

Right well installed that extension today, couldnt avoid some 90 degree corners due to wall around a bay window (the opposite way to the way you'd normally want a bend, too) but it's installed neatly and ADSL2+ stats are the same as they were before so...I think that's a good sign. And it doesnt disconnect when the phone rings which is also a good sign tongue

When I took the master socket off to get the cable in (which also needed a tight bend, sigh) I noticed the phone line into the master socket is aluminium. sigh again, nothing I can do about that though.

Anyways, roll on FTTC activation to see if my newly run extension actually works properly! Maybe...

On a side note, yes the cable was twisted the same as cat5e, I don't know if it is actually BT cable or not though as it's unmarked but hey ho

The phone line is aluminium? Is this from an overhead pole or underground?

A pole from 20 odd years ago...well, between 20 and 25...if not more, I don't really remember
