In reply to a post by boathouse:
I used to get 4.8mb down and 0.7 up because of a long line.
Around 3 months ago i had a number of drop outs during the day for around 2 weeks, and as coincedence we had the gas utility contractors digging up the roads on our estate mine included and laying new pipes.

Regarding migration to FTTC broadband and line rental: if there is an issue with the copper pair phone line from the cabinet to your premises it might be a good idea to go initially with an ISP with a good reputation for sorting out such problems. It may not be the cheapest deal though.

Thanks.
I can see the logic but price is my concern i will have to weigh up, i admit i have been looking at talk talk and vodafone but others would probably not touch with a barge pole.

You look to be on an ADSL service, which as a previous poster said is not dependent on the distance to the green cab, but the distance to the exchange.

If you're close to the cab and want a better service you'd need to order an FTTC service from your (or another) provider,

Yes just signed up for fibre up to 76mbps, so hope things go smooth.

I just did a BT fibre check and it came back with this message.

ULTRAFAST FIBRE 100

Your download speed range
137Mb - 138Mb

Your Stay Fast Guarantee 100Mb
Upload speed range 14Mb - 26Mb.

So as i only live around 80 yards from the street cabinet, up to 76mb with Sky should be fairly close to be reached?
Once Sky fibre is up and running what are the most likley things that would stop me getting close to 76mb?

Is that "fibre" FTTP or G.Fast? If it is G.Fast then you should get top speeds on VDSL but if it is FTTP then it is no indicator as FTTP doesn't come from the cab and isn't distance dependent.

G.fast as believe the few with FTTP via Sky on the Openreach network are special cases or invite only trial lists or staff
