FEC ERORS

[link to this post]

What is a normal amount of FEC erors for my modem?

This picture was taken at 5h 15min 42s of link uptime inside modem and it showed 61421 FEC errors https://ibb.co/P65qRJY (as you can see in this picture)

After 1 minute i log in again to check do i have more FEC errors and my modem actually shows less errors then before https://ibb.co/g70SMqz (as you can see in picture) and i did not reset modem or lose connection?

How can my errors go up and down its seems soo random. One time it will show 10k in a minute 2k and back to 5k and maybe in 5 minutes it will be 0?
Is this normal?

My line received just over 100,000 FEC per minute, every minute, all day long
That's perfectly acceptable and didn't worry me in the slightest.
There was many a time it would jump to over 1,000,000 per min but a resync would see it return to the normal 10,000+.

FEC aren't actual errors. They are errors that were corrected before they happened.

ES is the error counter the DLM is most interested in when deciding whether or not to make changes to a line.

It looks like you aren't in the UK? Never seen the OpenReach DLM apply those Interleaving settings or product caps.

Are you using VPN or have you changed your DNS settings?

What the FEC does that have to do with it? 😎

Haha! Good one! Exactly what I was thinking! FECs are at the physical layer tongue Oh, thankfully I don't have to worry about any types of errors, anymore!

Optical / GPON based broadband connection now?

FEC is still there alright. It’s pretty much de rigeur for all modern comms. You just don’t happen to ‘see’ it anymore - as any such management info is safely tucked away within the ONT

Your only ‘MI’ as to the network connection quality are the PON and LOS lights on the front cover… 😉
