Question about jumpering for adsl

Just wondering about the jumpering for a dsl circuit in the green cab if there is a faulty port in the cab.

So lets say the copper pair enters the e-side of the cab from the BT exchange. If the port in the e-side is faulty, but the port in the d-side is okay, would the Openreach engineer simply take out the jumper wire from the e-side and place it into a spare e-side port? Whilst leaving the d-side jumpering the same?

They'll move both jumpers to the new ports.

But isn't each port linked to a unique phone number? So for example, each copper pair coming from the exchange is linked to a different phone number, where it reaches its PCP port.

No. There is junpering in the exchange that allows that provides that flexibility.

You mean the engineer has to change the jumpering in the exchange as well?

Yes, otherwise the spare would not be connected to the exchange equipment assigned to your service for either ADSL or PSTN or maybe connected to nothing at all.

You mention ADSL then discuss jumpering in the cabinet.
ADSL jumpering happens in the exchange.

DO you mean ADSL or VDSL2 (FTTC is VDSL2).

When you mention "ports" in the cabinet do you mean the port on the line card of the electronic equipment that provides broadband (the DSLAM) or do you mean the IDC blocks in the PCP? Because how you have worded it above you could mean either.

If the port in the e-side is faulty, but the port in the d-side is okay, would the Openreach engineer simply take out the jumper wire from the e-side and place it into a spare e-side port? Whilst leaving the d-side jumpering the same?


Both jumper wires need changed. They connect to a single port on the line card.

I was talking about the PCP at first, but then also the exchange (DSLAM).

Okay, so is this right.... if the port of the e-side in the PCP/green cab is faulty, but the port in the d-side of the PCP is okay, would the Openreach engineer simply take out the jumper wire from the e-side block/port in the PCP and place it into a spare e-side port in the PCP?

I thought jumpers are used in both the PCP and the exchange. is that wrong? How does the e-side block of the PCP connect then to the d-side block of the pcp?

The jumper would need moving off the faulty pair and onto a new pair at both the exchange and PCP.
