Understanding Sync Speed Readings

[link to this post]

Hello,
I've been with Aquiss on their FTTC 80/20 package for years now, and my connection was always syncing at just under the max, however I've noticed for the past month or so my download speeds have slowed 2-3MB/s.

My current sync speed is DL 54999 kbps / UP 8274 kbps. I believe this used to be around 79000 kbps? I had put this lower sync down to multiple power cuts a few months ago, but my speed hasn't recovered.

I'm not sure if this is down to my line stats, unfortunately I can't make sense of them on this Netgear router (D6400) as it gives all the frequency bands, is anyone able to take a look please?

Line Attenuation Down:
D0( 12.6) D1( 33.5) D2( 50.2) dB
Line Attenuation Up:
U0( 6.2) U1( 27.7) U2(N/A) U3(N/A) U4(N/A) dB

Noise Margin Down:
D0( 8.9) D1( 8.9) D2( 8.7) dB
Noise Margin Up:
U0( 6.1) U1( 6.1) U2(N/A) U3(N/A) U4(N/A) dB

Many thanks.

Have you requested that your ISP runs a line test and an VDSL test ? You might just have some fault on your service that requires fixing ?

When was the last time the router was restarted ?

Hi,
I wasn't sure if this would be possible as I thought most ISPs don't guarantee speeds, but I will ask them to run a test. I've asked them to check to see if there is a cap and they have asked BT to remove the DLM cap. I can see the speed has only gone up slightly.

My router was reset within the last 24 hours.

There *is* an Openreach 55/10 FTTC profile, so it's possible that your line has been put on this by mistake. It's also possible that there's a line fault, although DLM moving to exactly 55M would be a bit of a coincidence.

The answer is straightforward: talk to Aquiss and ask them to look into it for you.

Aquiss have a good reputation for actually talking to customers and dealing with their issues. The top bod frequents this forum and chimes in from time to time.
