Hey! Broadband Router

[link to this post]

Hi there
Recently signed up to Hey! Broadband and have their 900Mbps. I'm wanting to change the router that came with the installations as have other WIFI and the router twice now in a week has stopped some internet services while others carry on, even blocks its own speed test but internet still works. Reboots fixes this.

Setup currently involves a ONT Adtran SDX611 and Adtran WIFI router.

I am looking at the TP-Link TL-R605 SafeStream Gigabit Multi-WAN VPN Router
Would this work?
They have said to let them know if my router has VLAN 10 AND DHCP?
Then they can arrange bridge mode and give me the username and password for account.

Do you think my router option would work with Hey Broadbands ONT?

Thanks

If you already have the little Adtran ONT, then just replace the Adtran router with your own router and put in the PPPoE credentials.

It's a bit weird that they gave you an Adtran ONT, and an Adtran router. Usually the router acts as the ONT too,

I recently moved to HeyB and they also installed the ONT and their router. I had requested bridge mode from the off, but they didnt provision it as such.
5 days later, I finally got it all sorted.

In any case - the main point is that to use your own router, you will want to use DHCP on the WAN interface (not PPPoE, hence no username and password) and untagged (i.e. do not set to VLAN10). (VLAN10 appears to be used only for their routers. I tried it to start with like that, it didnt recognise my MAC, kicked me off after 20min and blocked it. It was a huge hassle to get that sorted.)

Also, to your question, I like the look of the ER605. I have ordered one. Looks like it should work, but if youre happy to wait, I can report back in a few weeks.

Thanks, I did buy the TP Link TL-R605 and set it DHCP mode and connected to the ONT and it’s worked well since. I didn’t need to add and credentials. I’m away at the moment as I’m sure I did something else but probably have worked without that.

Thanks, it worked without the credentials, maybe they are stored in the ONT?

I've been told in some areas they use DHCP instead of PPPoE, so sounds like that's the case for you. smile

How are you finding the ER605? Can it route at gigabit speed ok?

Also - Q to both of you - do you have a BQM running?
Im seeing quite a lot of yellow latency spikes even when idle, and some significant packet loss at times.
Do you see the same?

Also, am I right that they dont do IPv6?

This is my BQM: https://imgur.com/a/zNkLNy3

Latency spikes, weird latency at 2am/2pm, but no real packet loss.

A while back I was getting bad packet loss, then the BQM server was rebooted I think, and it went away.

No IPv6 for us yet.
