BT78A junction box wiring.

[link to this post]

Hello. I'm glad I found this excellent forum, hoping that someone here will be able to help me.
I'm doing some decorating for my Mum and accidentally knocked the main junction box for the incoming phone line, doing so has pulled all the cables out of their sockets within the BT78A box. I've done a bit of googling and am picking up an IDC tool today to re insert the wires.... but I have NO CLUE which colours need to go where? The incoming cable has black, white, orange and green 0.5m wires. The interior cable (that runs off to the master socket) has brown, blue, orange and green. Please could anyone advise which colours correspond to each other, so I can get them installed again correctly. MANY THANKS in advance. David. I have taken some pics... hoping my Google pics link works?Pics01

I have taken some pics... but can't see an option here to add them??
That's because there isn't one...

I can't help with which wire goes where, but you can upload the pics to one of the image hosting sites and post a link here.

Stick the orange and white wires in the first cable to the blue and orange in the other for starters.

Things were better under Labour.

That would be my first suggestion too.

The 8 krone terminations on each side are linked to their opposite points . So terminate orange and white from the drop wire coming through the wall to two points on side of the terminals, and the orange and blue of the internal cable to the opposing terminals to those you have used for the orange white.

Which goes to which doesn’t especially matter, unless you are fussed about polarity. If the internal cable goes to the master socket, then it ought to be no issue

Brilliant. Thanks for the replies. Much appreciated. I'm going to give this a go now.
Newbie question...
I have never done anything like this before... are any of these wires 'live' in that they could give me a shock??? Would rather ask.

If the line you are repairing has a live voice service on it, then there is 50v DC on one leg (technically 49v before the pedants pile in) and approx 4v on the other leg. You would have to try quite had to get more than minor tingle off the pair.
Be holding it as it is rung, and it’s 75v AC …. and this a jolt akin to grasping an electric fence.

ISDN’s are 90v, and can give a fair jolt, some PW’s more, and a DACS at 113v can make you think twice.

The stock answer is that you shouldn’t be touching this at all, and that its repair would be chargeable. But you already HAVE touched it, and will hopefully think twice about doing such things again.

Thanks for the extra info.
And there's no arguing with what you state. You're absolutely right of course.
