BT Complete WiFi issues

[link to this post]

Hi,
I'm losing what little hair I have left, "discussing" with BT my slow speed and frequent WiFi drop out issues.
Long story short, I've FTTP, BT Smart Hub 2, discs, and fluctuations in speed from 3MB to 150MB+ ... does it sound like congestion? Of course Openreach says everything fine, although BT said they could see some issues on the line. Smart Hub 2 only allows a few channels, a lot of people in the street now have FTTP and I'm guessing WiFi...BT haven't a clue. Box opening engineers visit, still the same problem.
Any thoughts?
Appreciate any help.
Thanks

You need to find out if you have a WiFi issue or a line performance (congestion) issue first. Have you run speed tests using a wired connection when it's not performing? I recommend the speed test on this site as the comparison between single threaded and multi-threaded which it gives is often revealing.

Sounds like poor WiFi performance. Run the (wired!) speed tests suggested above

Do you know how to setup your laptop/PC test directly from the ONT GbE port rather than the Smarthub ports?

Thanks for the reply, appreciate it. Yes I've tried but congestion always seem to be short lived, but enough to mess up video calls. I'll get myself teed up better and ready to hard wire test when speeds slow

Thanks also... No I dont know how to wire, will this help? I think the issue might be WiFi congestion as discs take bandwidth too? Does that sound feasible?

You ought to be running something hardwired 24/7 … allowing you to say ‘yes or no’ instantly when wifi connected equipment is struggling.

I’d discount ‘BT’s’ “something in the line” comment personally. Unless there’s a bad light loss reading …. Which you’d imagine Openreach would have picked up and fixed already …. Then it just works, leaving just two options, contention their end, or your equipment your end.

Disks are just repeater/booster. If they do use anything it will be so little it makes no difference.

I did find with ours that you have to be careful where you place them to get the best signal, or they do drop out.

Do you have a laptop or PC with a wired Ethernet port?
