Gigaclear

[link to this post]

advice please. I have been with gigaclear for two years now, and have always had problem with the internet dropping with the router(linksys) needing rebooting every time. Started off once a month, presently it is every few days. Support have replaced the router but makes no difference. They are now saying it is a problem with the home network, so basically nothing to do with them. There is nothing unsual with my home network, at is very similar to what I had in my previous home with no problems. It seems very unlikely to me that a problem with the home network could cause the disconnection between the router / modem/provider. Any views?

The first question is whether this is a router-to-internet problem or a router-to-your-stuff problem. Are you connecting to your router via wireless or via fixed ethernet wiring?

I connect to the router both via ethernet and wireless. . Given the router only has one spare ethernet socket I have an ethernet switch.

Have you tried connecting straight into the ONT to see if the connection drops? Do the lights on your ONT change when the connection fails?

That is a reasonable setup. When your router hits problems do you see this on the ethernet connection?

Sorry aslightly complex answer, I got the new router (parent node) only a few days ago, with the old router the light went red and everything went down, rquiring a rebout. With the new router ( the child node remains the ame)it all goes down but no red light. I connected my laptop directly to the modem bypassing the router, and this works.
I have set up a broadband quality monitor to see what is happenining the other side of the router. I am beginning to think the child node is faulty which I realise is rather unlikely , but is my only theory so far. I have taken the child node out and we will see what happens, but it all takes time as the problem is intermittant, can be days before a drop.

Do you have a different router that you could try?

So having taken the child node out, the linternet dropped again. However the modem was still connected, so that seems to rule out the child node being the problem. I have now taken out everthing except the basics. So far okay
