You are getting a strong signal to use your words.

The issue is does the modem show any indications of errors e.g. error counters, is the noise margin figure stable, if yes then probably nothing to do with the phone line, but somewhere else in the 100+ miles of network cabling that hook you to the internet.

When it comes to reading and understanding my stats on the router to be honest and naive I do not really under stand any of it to the point if there was a fault there I would see it?.
I had this problem with my last ISP provider (POST OFFICE) 4months this went on for.
I phoned up stating I was getting low speeds they were adamant the fault was at my end and as it turned out an engineer who had been working on the lines up the road had knocked the wires on a few peoples connections. This was told to me by an engineer who had gone up the road to look into my issue in the (green box which all the lines go into)sorry for poor description.

I have a strange feeling my luck as gone the same way with this issue, but like you say its a needle in the haystack trying to find the problem with meters of cable.
I guess I will just have to make do with the [censored] end of the stick until my contract is up then think my options out on where to go next?.

If your BT master socket has a removeable lower section, remove the two screws and the lower faceplate and you'll see a hidden test socket. Plug a corded phone directly into that, dial 17070 and choose option 2.
Is there any discernable noise on the line?

I have done as you advised friend I was told my line margin I think she said was 3.8 which she then said was good & my line was in working order.

When she played my voice back to me it was clear and no noise was present.

You shouldn't hear anything during the quiet line test (17070 option 2).

When I pressed option 2 a womens voice came on saying I had to repeat "I like the moon the sun & the stars"
It would be recorded and then played back to me.

My post above yours was the results.
I will try again and listen to more options.

UP DATE : it is option 4.
I have no echo and very little noise on my line,I am guessing that my line is fine?.
It was instaled new when I took the packege out from sky.The line cable is no more then 7 months old.

Option 2 is still the quiet line test on my phone (just checked). I hear no noise (mind you I'm slightly deaf).

OP can't be on BT. What he must have got is Sky's version of the Quiet Line Test.
