But TT insist there is nothing wrong....what can I do other than becoming a professional engineer and sorting this out myself!

Assuming you have a master NTE5 socket, can you just try a different dangle micro filter (if you don't have a filtered faceplate on the master NTE5) in the test socket? This will involve removing the faceplate (or filtered faceplate?) from the master NTE5 socket and plugging a (different) dangle micro filter in, then connect the router and post your stats again?

Edit: 2 dangle micro filters are often supplied with routers - you may have another one on a phone extension.

Hi,

I have just changed the dangle, and checked inside the socket - it is only connected to number 2 and 5, so that should be good correct?

here is the latest readings, no improvements i think:

Downstream Upstream
Rate (Kbps): 675 kbps 537 kbps

SNR Margin (dB): 8.3 9.0
Attenuation (dB): 58.0 45.5
Output Power (dBm): 0.0 12.3

RS Uncorrectable Errors: 0 65480

HEC Errors: 0 0

So the router was powered off whilst you swapped filters ? If so, that's a shed load off errors for such a short time in sync. If this is so, then I'd be suspecting something amiss with the line. Any noise or hiss on the line when using a telephone at the same time as the router being in sync ?

If yes, ring TT and ask if they might run a CIDT test, this *should* pick up on an HR fault, which would be the likely cause.

I'm not clear if those stats are from the test socket ?

what speed were you "sold" originally ?

MaxDSL - goes as fast as it can and doesn't read the line checker first.

So you have an phone extension connected to 2 and 5 on the back of the faceplate and no bell wire connected - that's good smile

Did you plug the alternative dangle filter directly into the test socket? If you did and there is no improvement then I would report the poor sync speed (downstream rate) to your ISP and insist that they send another router in order to verify that there are no problems on your side of the master socket or with your current router.

If using an alternative router, filter and adsl lead in the test socket still doesn't improve things then you will need an Openreach SFI engineer to diagnose/repair the problems with your line exchange side of the master NTE5. It MUST be an SFI engineer don't accept an offer of letting these people check your home wiring http://www.talktalk.co.uk/members/working-with-qube-...

Yeah I turned it off when I swapped the filters.

There is some background noise when i called my house phone...also another weird thing i just realised (don't know if its to do with the wire or my phone's setting), but when i tried to hang up on my house phone it does not disconnect from the mobile i called from...

TT has ran test after test, but they keep saying no fault...I will call them again now asking for a CIDT test. what is a HR fault?

Thanks,

I dont have a test socket in my flat, i only have one phone socket.

I have actually requested TT to send someone over to check the line, I don't know if it is these guys...but what is the difference between them and what is wrong with QubeGB - so i know and then i can call TT up and demand I get SFI engineers...

Thanks!

Does your phone socket look like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B006V1P39A/ref=pd... ?

Those QubeGB folks will only do the tests that you are doing, and other checks that you have been advised to do, and may charge you £50 even if the fault is found by a SFI engineer on the line exchange side of the master - if a fault is found beyond your premises then diagnostics/repair done by a SFI is free.
