Re: Virgin cancelling contract

[re: deleted] [link to this post]

I have cancelled my Direct debit to virgin until i hear from them. I paid my last bill but the only thing remaining is the cancellation fee. I refuse to pay anything until i formally get a phonecall hearing or speak with a person that knows what i said or hear the phonecall myself. They are not even responding for 2 weeks now completly ignoring my constant calls complaining that it is not my fault. Keep being filled with their empty promises of hearing the phonecall. They initially said that it will take up to 3 working day. What is taking so long now?

Please do not cut off the payments. I know it seems like the best thing to do however what you do not realise is that virginmedia report to credit reference agencies whether you pay or not.

Miss a payment it will show as a failed payment on your credit report.

Miss 3 payments chances are you will not get an overdraft increase, a credit card, perhaps a mobile phone contract, a mortgage etc. Also every missed payment will affect the rate you are offered on a loan, overdraft etc.

Believe me it's not worth messing up your credit over a firm dispute like this. You're better to just argue via the formal channels until virginmedia provide written agreement that they'll allow you out of the contract.

I'm trying my best to help smile but ofc it's ultimately your choice.

I have heard that companies do this, but I find it strange and frightening that they can get somebody's credit rating messed up without any judicial process.

When I had virginmedia they logged every payment onto my EXPERIAN (EDITED: AUTO CORRECT) credit report monthly so a missed payment would have shown as red and this would have affected things....

A lot of companies do it, your bank, credit card, mobile phone contract etc.

You fail to make a payment. They report it via the system as a missed payment.

Where is the problem in that ???

It's there to allow companies to make a informed decision before allowing someone into a financial situation with them.
Would you want to know if someone was a bad payment risk if you lent them money????

I believe Virgin no longer provide ADSLx to new or moving customers outside their cable coverage.
That's good I suppose because, In a way, it keeps them honest.

When I moved from my previous place, where I had cable (which was really good in those pre-traffic management days), to my present home (not a cabled area) I had to endure an awful lot of doubletalk from them before they would finally accept that they could not supply a suitable product.

Hey,

While i do agree that cutting off payments is a bad idea, i HAVE paid all my BILLS till the end of contract. The only thing remaining ti be paid is the questionable cancellation fee. I have heard what a pain it is to get a refund from virgin once they do agree on paying you back. Am i not allowed to withold payment until the cancellation fee situation is resolved or until i hear a formal response? They are rejecting me. If i pay what tell me that they will actually look into the issue?

Update guys,

After countless phone calls, somebody competent enough actually received my phone and after threatening with law suit they said that my 1st phone call to cancel was within 7 working days so i am not obliged to pay any cancellation fee now. It is sad that i had to threaten in order to get my request processed.

Erm, they could lie. There is no oversight or independent verification of their allegation.

AIUI you cannot have it removed either. All you can do is have an entry added that you dispute it. Which might be even worse for your credit rating than ignoring it.
