Re: Issues with Business ISP

[re: CJT] [link to this post]

Thank you for ALL the replies so far.

I have got more help off here than I have from the ISP which frankly leads to my concern they are not a very good ISP.

I think the best think I can do is take pictures of the set-up to give everyone I better idea of the wiring.

It could be awkward to site the router at the Master Socket, but not impossible.

I will either have a look tomorrow first thing, or if it's better for the business on Thursday as the site is closed.

I like the idea of a filtered socket and a properly wired extension. The present one (which I will try and take a picture of) is a "DIY" plug in extension.

If the Internet speed can be increased we should be able to run the PDQ via an Ethernet connection as well.

For now we need to sort the wiring out and take it from there.

This morning I have checked and the PDQ was filtered however the phone was not..

As a temporary measure I have removed the Master Socket face plate and connected the router (with filter) directly to the test socket. I performed a speed test and the results were better.

I have connected the extension via the filter and the Phone/PDQ are now filtered from the Master Socket.

I have contacted 3D Telecom to get them to perform the SNR Reset and am now awaiting a call back.

Just to confirm the setup:

Master > Filter > Router
Master > Filter > Extension Socket > Phone/PDQ

I am hoping that this works for now so we can get the speed back up while I work out a more permanent solution.

--------

On a separate point, what is the situation with the Master Socket is the face plate on it right now a requirement?

Would it be worth getting a proper twisted pair extension cable and then changing the extension face plate for a filtered one? I would then hard wire the extension into the Master Socket.

I hope I have explained that well.

Kind Regards

CJT.

Further update:

3D called back and say that they have reset the SNR. They claim it can take up to 10 days to get the "best speed", is this the case?

I will leave the router plugged into the Master Socket (in the test socket) for the moment.

Out of interest what specification is best for the cable extension and are there any decent websites to get it from?

Kind Regards,

CJT.

Once reset if the modem is restarted you should see the effect in the line stats immediately.

CW1308 twisted pair cable or copper CAT5e (not CCA)

Amazon is as good a place as any.

They cannot reset the line themselves. Nor can Plusnet.

What has probably happened is they have asked Plusnet, and I think Plusnet have to put in a request to BT Wholesale.

So although what MrSaffron correctly says, don't rely on the reset happening before some time during the night.

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk. Domains, site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Plusnet UnLim Fibre (FTTC). Sync 60000/16961kbps @ 600m. - IPv4BQM IPv6BQM

Preferrably some time before you walk out of the door just in case it misbehaves smile

So anytime during the day

Thanks RobertoS,

I won't be in again till next week at this office.

So I am unsure of the best time to reset the Router.
