truth of 20mb

[link to this post]

I've been reading this forum for a few weeks now and here's my 2 bob.

I signed up for unlimited broardband with no restrictions (traffic management) with NTL/Virgin Media last year & now it's limited by TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT!! THEY NEVER INFORMED ME OF THIS NO LETTER, NO EMAIL.
They have resticted the speed of all their customers during the hours of 4pm to 10pm to handle the 20 mb connection.
When you ring them to ask why your internet is slow, they pretend that they don't know what the problem is, telling you to ring tech support 25p per min, (theIr multi-million pound money spinner).
The reason they have done this is because they've tried to corner the market by offering the highest bandwidth at the cheapest price; without upgrading their servers, traffic management has been implamented to handle the load.
Don't be fooled, limiting your (so called "UNLIMITED BROADBAND & SPEED") is WRONG! and the denile of this makes it worse. (they say it's because of 5% of greedy users and clogging up the system)
The honourable thing VM could do is to scrap 20mb and supply a speed their servers can handle, and people that signed up before traffic management was introduced should be exempt, that's why people are going mad, because when they signed up their were no restrictions; people feel cheated.
You have a choice, take it or leave it.

You can help yourself eg. If you are a heavy user using peer 2 peer, obviously you have to give back what you have downloaded or get banned from site, so upload in peak times, because until you reach your download quota (750mb for 2 & 4mb,3gig for 20mb) there are no restrictions, you can upload to your peer 2 peer site at maximum in peak times, then after 10pm you can put 20 films on to download at max.
Or if your on 2mb or 4mb ,download NTL/Virgin Media UNCAPPING TOOL, install it, & unlock your modem allowing you to download at 20mb.Be careful with this, only use between 11pm & 7am,(Ideal for downloading Bluray).
THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX

Definitions of unlimited.

Having no restrictions or controls
Having no limits in range or scope
Outright: without reservation or exception
Inexhaustible: that cannot be entirely consumed or used up
A term to describe an action not defined within narrowed limits
Having or seeming to have no boundaries

Downloading 24 hours a day at full pelt is why i joined VM.(I'm aware of fair usage policy),but most get away with that (i have for 4 years). This traffic management is because of the companies GREED & stuff the customers attitude. They never told me when i signed up, that next year they would introduce traffic management, if they had i would have gone with another company, at the moment i am tied to them by contract for another 3 months, and that's why so many are annoyed with them.

I have a business degree + a sucessful business, and this is how corp. business is done.Money comes first and the customer comes last.

PS, If Virgin Media guard dog pcoventry76 disagrees then he IS working for vm.
HE SAYS "i work for the blood service delivering blood".My ass, he's the "HEART" Virgin Media propergander team

The VM guard dog has bitten, maybe we should mussle him.lol

That was a poor comeback!!
YES, YOUR THE HEART OF VM
Are people with business degrees supposed to be the life of the party??
Dull is hanging around this forum, like a paedofile hanging around a chatroom

At the end of the day people who signed up before traffic management are outraged, because if they new their contract was going to be chaged they may have signed up with a different company, then Virgin Media use that same contract to keep you for the rest of your term .ITS WRONG!!!!
put it this way, would you be happy if they resticted it for 18hour a day @ 1mb ater downloading 3gig?????

I'm against it as much as the next person but your post in which you've clearly said you download stuff illegally, which I'll admit I do to so I'm no saint, but still, whining that you can't download movies or music 24/7 when you agreed with their terms and conditions when you signed up and should have known that pretty much every company know states in their T&C that the contract can change at any time without the customers consent.

I'm afraid this is how it is, a company is there to make money, they will as you yourself have said, try and squeeze every last penny out.

if you were working for VM and had to make the decision to either spend X million upgrading your network or simply start throttling connections which'll cost you nothing, which would you do?

I'm not defending VM here as I think any sort of throttling or limits are ridiculous for something like the internet but you do have to be realistic.

You also point out about cable modem unlocking so it wouldn't surprise me if you are currently using an unlocked connection and are not paying for what you are actually using, if that's the case then the hypocrisy is even worse.

Using your analogy of unlimited means unlimited then surely even if they gave you full on 20 meg 24/7 then you would only be able to download a finite amount in a given period. Now unless I am thick that to me shows that you dont need a business degree or successful business to realise that the 20 meg doesnt meet your unlimited definition either.

the reality of isp's isnt harsh its the same as any other company to make money

The ones that do it by producing the feeling they care about the customer are just the ones with the most smoke and mirrors.

Virgin are no different to any other isp which is why they all introduce some FUP so that they can make money and keep the share holders happy

If they didnt they would go bust and there would be no services. Basic business which im sure you know.
