20mb just installed - thoughts

Well i have been testing my connection for the last day or two and it would appear the ONLY time i get a 20mb connection is very early in the morning, then it gradually gets slower as the day goes on. By 3pm it is a 6mb connection. This is dispite the fact i have downloaded no where near my 3gb allowance.

I have emailed virgin to complain and will get my money back if they don't come up with a good explanation.

a) Its a shared connnection. You share you 20mbit with a pile of other people. Thats why it only costs �37 / mo. If this wasnt the case it would be a few thousand � per month.

b) It is advertised as "Up To 20" not 20. Your not guarenteed anything and no, you are not falling victim of STM.


Basically you can wait until your area gets an upgrade on bandwidth (which right now is probably months off) or complain and probably get nowhere. Your tied into a contract which they are currently not breaking and therefore don't have to do anything for you.

Your best bet is to talk to the Usenet support staff. They seem to know a damn sight more about the workings of the network and may be able to improve things for ya.

hmm, thats true, forgot about that.


Get youself a good download manager too while your at it. Download Them All for Firefox works good (If you use FF). This really does help things (at the expense of someone else)
