BT or VM cable ?. Which is better ?

[link to this post]

I know this has probably been asked millions of times, but I am with BT at moment
and would like to change to VM Cable but dont want to find it is worse.
So anyone on here changed from BT to VM Cable ,and what it connection like
speed wise and reliability wise ?. Two things concern me. (a) whether VM have outages
that last for days (b) whether speed is as fast as they advertise ,or is that wishful thinking ?.

Thanks

All depends what you use your connection for i guess.

I have been with them for about 1 1/2 years and not had any problems in that time. They do have traffic management running so you just have to use the times it is or isn't in force to your advantage which one guy on here ( PCoventry76 ) who does just that so check out one of his posts.

Speed test i have just done

I have just done test on my supposed 8 meg BT line and it is 729 kps down and 378 up.
Hmm I think my dial up was faster. Absolute rubbish, plus it disconnects every20 mins.

I use to for business so need fast and reliable.

Dialup was a lot lower speeds than that...so if it is taking 15 to 20 seconds per page open then something else is up.

20 minute just happens to be the default disconnect on idle for a USB ADSL modem, is that set?

Andrew, will check the 20 minute cut off but dont think so. Thanks PCoventry very
in depth analysis and useful to know cheers.

One thing though. You say "21 a month for internet and a phoneline" and that
you are on 20mb but cannot find that good a deal on VM website unless im
missing it ??.

Thanks

And if you get a "friend" who is on Virgin to recommend you, you get 30 back for that too, so that pays for the install.

If you are going to join Virgin take a look at the following website. If you join them you will get cashback from alot of high street and online retailers.

I have had over 900 cashback this year by just going through them to make my purchases.
