Installation Date

[link to this post]

I've signed up for a Virgin media bundle (M+ TV, XXL 50Mb broadband, Weekend phone package) but the earliest installation date available when ordering online was March 6th!

This is a very long wait and everyone in the household is a bit miffed. Can anyone think of a way to get the date moved forward? We were thinking that maybe somewhere around 5-10 days time from the order is more reasonable.

Finding it a little hard to understand that it's all down to nearby engineers. There's no job vacancies for engineers anywhere near this area, so I think it's reasonable to assume that they have the man power. They wouldn't make new customers wait nearly 4 weeks if they had a choice! We're almost tempted to give up and take our business elsewhere.

Couple of points:-
The house appears to be wired up for NTL/Diamond cable, so would I be right to assume that most of the 'heavy' work has already been done?
Has anyone managed to get an quicker install date by phoning customer services?
Any other ideas/tips?

Cheers,

In the wild North East I was installed within 5 days. Must be more popular where you are... Sorry this doesn't help with your query though...

Not a recent area, It's been cable around here since Diamond cable several years ago. It's just annoying waiting this long. If they send me the equipment and instructions, I'd do the work myself.

You can do a lot of self installs in the conditions on the physical setup are correct at your address, but this sadly excludes 50Mb.

From what I've read the engineer is supposed to ensure the power levels are suitable and if not adjust them either by moving up up and down in the cabinet, or fitting attenuators.

My engineer swapped the modem, rang up to have the modem hit and left.
No checking of the power levels, throughput or even that it was actually working.
It was fine, but that was besides the point.

I placed an order on Monday 8th with the next available install date being Wednesday 24th! Doesn't sound too bad as compared with some others but still a tad annoying! - Rochdale area.

What you can do is ring VM a week after ordering and ask if there has been an opening so you can get installed sooner.

Thats what happend when i got my TV+Phone from them. i had to wait 3 weeks for the installed but after a week i rang to see if i could get it done sooner and sure enough a space had opened up and i got installed that same day haha
