Already on 10mb. Do I need new hardware for 50mb?

As above, I'm currently on 10mb and thinking of upgrading to 50mb. Will I need new hardware, or is it just a change of settings at VM's end? Does an engineer have to come out again, or is the switch fairly instant?

will simply be a change of settings, not 100% sure that a new modem isnt needed tho

good luck with it lol, av a read in these forums because u'll see plenty of people getting nowhere near 50mb and sometimes lower than 20mb aswell

You will need the 50Mb modem as it's DOCSIS3 but the 10/20Mb is DOCSIS2

and when you do get 50mb conttant like I did. you get bitched at for using too much by others.

yea as pete says you will need to upgrade your modem.....

as far as download speed goes.....10/10 never any problems with it....hit the full 50mbps or there abouts 24/7

well apaprently they cant monitor it. then again I am open about my usage so that's obviously my problem.

Your modem needs to be DOCSIS 3 compatible. This is most of the VM used modems now including (I believe) the Scientific Atlanta / Webstar EPC200 model. Certainly the VM / Ambit modems are ok. If you have one of the old Motorola modems you should give VM a call when booking your upgrade and tell them to make sure the engineer brings a new modem.

Engineer arrives and performs installation
Engineer calls through to VM and gets them to "send hits" to the modem in order to register it.
Reboot modem

An engineer is required for 50Mb installations and if you use wireless Internet and already have a "G" rated router, it will need to be changed to an "N" router in order to maximise potential

There's a single modem in use on the VM network that is DOCSIS 3 compatible, the VMNG 300. None of the other modems are usable for the 50M tier.
