There's no timeframe for 100mb rollout as yet. I hear plans are afoot to implement some new upstream capability into the network before any speed increases beyond the current packages are made available to the masses.

The word over on cableforum is that they will be rolling out upstream speeds at 10% of download nationwide so this isn't just for the top end packages. Some people in the Lincoln area (for one) are already getting these upstream speeds. No timescales though.

I presume they felt that they had to do so with BT rolling out Infinity which has higher upstreams than current cable.

This process has already started and is being done on a port by port basis. Lincoln and Leeds posters have noted an upgrade, there are others.

Not privvy to the timescales I'm afraid, beyond that I'm getting nothing until next financial year tongue

Your knowledge of the workings of cable seems to be huge. Do you or did you work for one of the cable companies? Feel free to ignore if you'd prefer.

Yep I used to work for ntl in the networks division dealing with core IP, CMTS and cable network issues.

EDIT: Wouldn't call my knowledge 'huge' only a beginner to be honest. Real experts are scary people smile

I would take that with a huge pinch of salt, especially if it came from a local engineer.

From what I can gather the plan is to get all tiers onto 10:1, IE 10/1, 20/2, 50/5 and 100/10 as speeds, and the launch schedule for 100Mbit hasn't been finalised yet.

Everything is relative. I can't say I've dug all that hard but a cursory hunt around to find out how cable networks actually work doesn't produce much info above the trivial. That makes most of your posts on the various technicalities rank as expert level as most folks seem to know absolutely jack. With ADSL there is a lot more easily found info (imo).
