What speed should I expect on 50mb???

[link to this post]

Ok, I've had the Virgin Media 50mb service installed today.

I've tried a couple of speed tests, including the one on this site, each one says 3.5mb.

I've tried downloading through my newsproviders and that veried between 3-4mb. However, when I try to download through a website, I get download speeds of around 450kb!!

My question is, what kind of download speeds should I be expecting? Surely I should be getting a much faster speed than this??

Ok, so should I monitor it and see how it goes? If it doesn't go over 10-20mb, surely I have a case to go back to VM and download my package because I'm not receiving 50mb??

So are you saying I should ring VM and tell them to downgrade me? Or should I see how it goes? I only got connected today, are they going to tell me they can't downgrade me because I'm on a 12 month contract??

u had 7/14 days to try out. If not happy you can ring up virgin media to downgrade you back to either 20Meg or 10Meg of your choice no problem but you still on 12 months contract thought. Only the speed and prices will be changing.

May I ask how much did you pay 50Mb ? I pay £38 for 50Mb standalone before downgrade to 10Mb after 2 months and now I paying £18 a month.

I'll give it a few days then to see how the speed goes. I'm paying £38 a month, but its £30 for the first 3 months.

The best thing about the 50mb service is that VM dont throttle your connection no matter how much you download unlike the 10/20mb services.

I find it hard to believe it not throttling on 50Mb but why speed reduced ? So strange....but very true about traffic managed on 10mb/20mb but it still no traffic managed from 9pm until 8am 7 days a week doesn't worry me too much. I downloading after 9pm.

Here is my 50Mb speed test in past with VM:: http://www.speedtest.net/result/679975801.png

I have got it connected to my laptop via the ethernet cable. I went to speedtest.net and got a download of 3.4mb. Very slow considering I'm paying for 50mb, don't really know what to do!
