iTunes Match throttled

[link to this post]

The first 10 or so songs upload at 9Mbps then drop back to a few bytes (overnight maybe 2 more will upload it's that slow). Quitting iTunes and starting again uploads another small batch at good speeds before dropping back. I can't figure out whether the performance issue is on Apple or Virgin's side. Has anyone else signed up to iTunes Match on a Virgin connection (this one is 100/10MB)?

Ok so now I'm connecting on a 3 MiFi and the songs have been uploading at constant speeds (about 2Mbps). I assume this puts Virgin in the frame.

Virgin is pants at the moment. I'm on 50MB and up until a couple of weeks ago my download speeds were relatively good. Going to speak to them about it next week.

If you are on 100MB surely they should not be throttling at all.....???

There should be no throttling on the 100mbps product.

Virginmedia is dependant on the area you live in. Some areas seem perfect whilst others are a nightmare. The superhub is a terrible piece of kit wherever you are though.

How are speedtests?

As I say, it should be working fine.

All packages feature traffic shaping. They might need to create a profile for iTunes match.

Throttling is different to shaping.

Still no mention of XXXL - 100 Mbps being throttled or whatever you call it

& the usage restrictions are exactly the same as the link I posted

Customers with Broadband size: 100 (100Mb) your usage excluding file sharing traffic (see below) is unaffected.

I would assume this still applies to the 50Mb also, which was their top product when I signed up, and I have not been notified of any changes to our agreement despite the fact that 100Mb is now available.

Virgin claim there are no restrictions but still anything connected with iTunes starts fast then suddenly slows to a few bytes/s. But it's not happening on either 3 or O2 mobile broadband. Otherwise a speed test comes in around 90/9Mbps.

seems some people have been misled with VMs marketing and confusion frown

VM have 2 methods of traffic management.

Their STM which is a usage based throttle.
Traffic shaping which is protocol based.

The STM is not on the 100mbit tier at all and I think its upload only on the 50mbit tier. But the traffic shaping is on there.

I've seen exactly the same throttling kick in whilst doing iTunes Match. Except that it is throttling my entire uplaod to 0.25Mbps, and it only resets the next morning. Fortunatley Match has finished now (yay!).

I had some tremendous problems using VPN at the weekend for exactly the same reason, the upload got throttled to 0.25Mbps. Downloads stay fine.
