Re: iTunes Match throttled

Virgin claim there are no restrictions but still anything connected with iTunes starts fast then suddenly slows to a few bytes/s. But it's not happening on either 3 or O2 mobile broadband. Otherwise a speed test comes in around 90/9Mbps.

In reply to a post by ukhardy07:
There should be no throttling on the 100mbps product.

Virginmedia is dependant on the area you live in. Some areas seem perfect whilst others are a nightmare. The superhub is a terrible piece of kit wherever you are though.

How are speedtests?

As I say, it should be working fine.

seems some people have been misled with VMs marketing and confusion frown

VM have 2 methods of traffic management.

Their STM which is a usage based throttle.
Traffic shaping which is protocol based.

The STM is not on the 100mbit tier at all and I think its upload only on the 50mbit tier. But the traffic shaping is on there.

I've seen exactly the same throttling kick in whilst doing iTunes Match. Except that it is throttling my entire uplaod to 0.25Mbps, and it only resets the next morning. Fortunatley Match has finished now (yay!).

I had some tremendous problems using VPN at the weekend for exactly the same reason, the upload got throttled to 0.25Mbps. Downloads stay fine.
