Need some serious help

[link to this post]

Hello,

I've been a Virgin Media customer for a while and had this issue for a long time. I've never thought to try and fix it but now it's actually affecting me.

This problem is to do with upload stability. The upstream connection is never able to remain at a constant speed. If I'm trying to achieve the speed of 3Mbps it will instead jump to crazy numbers above and below. This is a problem with video calling as you can imagine.

For the past couple months I had found a quick solution, and I don't even think you'd be able to explain how it works. If I am to run a continuous speed test on a seperate device with a speed higher than 5Mbps, the upload speed everywhere else seems to maintain itself. It sounds crazy and I have no idea how it even works. I have IT friends that can't even come up with an explanation. However, this solution I fear is starting to fall back with the application I use starting to get buggy and unusable.

So here I am asking for help. What could be causing this? How could I fix this?

Are the power levels above 53db. I used to get lots of problems with upstream and downstream when the upload power levels were high.

If you got to the "Router Stats" page or something similar by the following link

192.168.0.1

You don't need to login, it should be on the first page as a link..

Also, check the cable in to the router and the wall box are tight.

There are 4 channels which are between 30 and 34. I've double checked all the wires and they were tight and in correctly.

That’s probably ok power levels. What are your down stream power levels? Do you have any idea how far you are away from the local green or duck grey Virgin Media cabinet?

There are 24 channels with a dBmv between 1 (10) and 3.5 (35). The box is just around the corner from our street, 30 second walk.

That’s also good. Does the problem you are having happen when connected by a network cable?

I've tried it on both wired and wireless connections and on multiple devices. I honestly just think it's an ISP problem at this point. I read that it might be bad bufferbloat which causes a lot of spiking in latency and stability.
