I just joined O2 so should be getting some of these so called volt benifits.
But It says on the VM site:
Join O2 and get double the mobile data on every eligible O2 Pay Monthly plan in your household, a broadband speed boost to the next available level (if you aren’t already on the fastest speeds you can get in your area), and supercharged connectivity at home and on the move. All when your household is with both Virgin Media and O2.
So, If I am already on the highest speed, 1gig. I get nothing? Should I drop to M500 then and get a free bump to 1gig? How does this work? Someone on the VM forum was hinting that I might get a discount.
Can anyone shed some light on this?

How much do you pay for gig1 currently?
What I can tell you is that gig1 on the website as a standalone package when I ordered was £64 but wasnt available with O2.
On ringing up, I was offered it combined with O2 with a significant discount from £64 down to £41. So an effective price drop, note that this is not the M500 price (at time of my order, which was £38 with O2 and £50+ without it) so I didnt simply get M500 with the speed boost.

Ok I would deffo query, it wouldnt surprise me you get a better price than me as the black friday sales now. They seem to be willing to hugely subsidise VM prices to get people on O2 sims. I only pay £29 to VM, with the other £12 going to O2.
I believe I have call weekends on VM although no intention of using it like yourself, tell them you have a friend paying £41 for been VM and O2 joint. I originally wasnt even going to use the O2 sim, but it was an upgrade for my work phone which was on giffgaff so its in there now with number ported. It might have been easier though if you signed up to O2 via VM.
Even on here you can ditch the phone and get it down to £45. (that no phone option wasnt there when I ordered)

Well, I just got an email from O2 telling me that my Volt benefits have been added....
But I still do not have double data... Yet.
As for VM. When I login some Volt logos have been added to my packages. I guess I will have to wait for my next bill to come in to see if they give me a discount on my package or not.
It just says that I will get a free speed bump to the next tier unless already on the highest. But no mention of what one would get if they are on the highest. Nothing I assume! Cheeky.
My next bill is due tomorrow or Tuesday.
One thing I did notice is now I can actually change my package online and they want £54 for M500! Are they on smack?
But it looks like I might need to give them a call as it looks like if you are already on the 1GIG package you get nothing. Not even a discount.
Please note that if you already have Gig1 broadband or you are already receiving the fastest speeds you can get in your area, then the benefit cannot be applied.

If you sit there doing nothing VM will happily let you over pay, they an ISP you have to haggle.
The £41 deal is not a 6month temporary thing its duration of contract, with inflation rate increases. So probably be about £47 for me next April.
Also just checked the website again, its same deal for the £45 package 18 months (probably with inflation increases in between).
So call retentions, tell them you leaving, wait for the phone call begging you to stay, if the offer isnt good enough, cancel then sign up again on the £45 deal. They also removed the setup fee since I last posted now as well.

VM 1Gig you never get 1Gig - always below 500. Cos my mate on full package inc 1Gig as he told me speed in the last 18 months are rubbish between 350 and 500. Never get above that. His router was connected to his pc by ethernet cable via 2.5Gbps network card.

If your mate is happy to spend 18 months below the minimum speed for his package I think there's an issue with him as much as VM.
Most on VM get the advertised speed. There are many more people on it than your mate on the full package.
He might be connected to his router via a 2.5G network card, his router wouldn't be connected to the hub via 2.5G - 18 months ago would've been a Hub 4 with gigabit ports only.
Respectufully: there are many more people in the UK than you and your mates and neither your or their experiences mean everyone is in the same position.

I had a load of problems with Volt benefits on broadband. I got M500, my volt benefits appled to my o2 contract (double data), but nothing happened with the broadband. Was then a massive hassle to get it added - only managed it through the CEO office and even then they had to charge me £1/month more to get gig1.

I guess he needs to call support if he gets nowhere near gigabit speeds which in his case would be 945Mbps or 1150Mbps if using hub 5 with 2.5gbe

Strange I been to his house checked all ethernet cable Cat6, network card 2.5Gbps and his speedtest only come out below 500Meg all times but upload was fine over 50Meg. I think he need new Hub 5?

Does this "m8" have a broadband monitor setup because it will show issues like high area utilisation which could be the root cause of poor speeds.

I finally got round to contacting VM about this.
I just said I want out and said about not getting any VOLT benefits.
And just like that I am now getting 1gig for the same price I paid for M500 £45. No phone line now though but that's fine as I never use it.
