Enable WAN ping for BQM on Super Hub 3

[link to this post]

Hi, I am in the unfortunate position of having to use my Super Hub 3 as a temporary router rather than in modem mode because my Asus router just died after 8 years.

I have always had BQM enabled but I can't see an obvious way to allow WAN ping on the super hub 3. Can someone please let me know how to do this? I Had a good search around but could not find helpful suggestions.

Thanks.

I am also in Modem mode so I cant check the setting my self but have a look under the Advanced Settings > Tools > Ping menu.

I'm 99% sure its somewhere as I use the BQM as well.. But I've been in modem mode so long I cant recall if I used it when I had the Hub in router mode or not

Post the question on the VM Forums here. https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Broadband/ct-p/...
I've never used any of my VM Hubs as routers, they are always in modem mode. wink

I have already checked in the ping menu under advanced options but there is no option there.

I have also been in modem mode for as long as I can remember but my router died so I need to use VM hub in router mode until I get a new router.

I've put my hub 3.0 into modem mode and can confirm that there is no option to respond to pings on WAN port. The "ping" option in the menu allows you to get the hub router to send pings out to a device.

I think there WAS an option, perhaps removed in a firmware update. That sort of insanity is why I'm in Router mode. I have firmware 9.1.2208.100

You miss understand.

He WAS in modem mode and is now using it in router mode and is wanting it to respond to a ping on the wan (the internet)

The option is there somewhere. Maybe under port forwarding or firewall?

I mis-typed and can't edit the post above. Doh! Swap "modem" in first paragraph for "router" in last one. frown

I use modem all the time, and for 10 mins to check put the Hub 3 in ROUTER mode, there is no option TODAY.

The option is there somewhere. Maybe under port forwarding or firewall?

I checked all of those areas. I know it used to be there, I used it, but not for 12 months.
Can you check yours?

Back when I had one, my hub was faulty and worked most the time and would stop at random, I recommend logging a fault and asking for a HUB5, they are more robust. I got through more than 5 HUB 3's those things were useless.
2 of them were smouldering the engineer advised that anything more than a handful of devices they start to overheat and die.
I remember 2 of them the ethernet ports just died or became intermittent depending which one was used, in the end I used my own kit and theirs in modem mode other than when engineers were attending.

Their thing could barely cope having over 55 devices connected to it seemed to push it over the edge.

Many Thanks,

No worries JC. I cant really deal with swapping mine back to router mode to check atm but Maybe I started using my own router as the Hub 4 would not ping on wan.. I really can not remember for sure now as its been so long frown

Maybe there was an option for it but was removed in a firmware... downgrade.

I think that is most likely judging from the comments on ISPreview about the Hub 5 for non DOCSIS areas which has all sorts of issues.

The workaround would be to put something in the DMZ option, a device that is itself hardened, and can cope with internet scanning.

Best option is to use modem mode..... and we are full circle smile
