West Yorkshire Speeds

I live in wakefield WF2. and the max speed i can get with tweets set via Dr TCP is 11457.94 Kbps. I have subscribed to a 20mb services. I was wondering if anyone knew if they have upgraded this area from 10mb to 20mb.

I am in WF1 - I was having very poor speeds / packet loss earlier this year, after many promises of 'will be fixed in 2 weeks', I ended up making an official complaint and got someone who tried their best to sort it out. In the end it was one day short of six months from the ticket being opened to the UBR being upgraded. Since then (mid July) speeds are starting to drop off again down from a constant 18-20 meg down now to about 15 meg.

I think it's a simple case of VM squeezing every last drop out of the network, and when they increase capacity localy they very quickly use it up with new customers (and who can blame them with their overdraft!!)

We all have the same options when we have these issues - complain until VM do something about it, grin and bear it, or vote with our feet and walk away. I will stick it out as I am on a pretty good deal which keeps the bank of wife quiet!!!

i am in the WF2 area put on 4mbs and it hits it most off the time apart from a few weeks ago,one night i had nothing, put that why i downgraded to 4mbs it was poor on 10mbs in the area.

Which UBR are you on - I'm on UBR04 (since when I dont know as i was on 01 for years being one of the telewest originals in this part of the world). Looking at the records it seems my IP changed back in July when they did the 'upgrade' which maybe meant they just swapped me from 01 to 04 and people on 01 are still suffering....

Just done a test on here and am getting a nice 18.5 meg.

So it looks like they can swap you from UBR to UBR - they always could - but have tried to tell me they cant do that anymore. So maybe the OP wants to get onto VM and get them to swap UBR's unless they're going to be downloading lots of those Linux ISO's then maybe they want to stay on the UBR they're on!!!!i

So it looks like i might have to try and get them to change that to ubr01 ?

I used to be on UBR01 - and would crawl along at a few megbits, sometimes as fast as a couple of hundered kilobits and then there was packet loss of a good 20%!!

Since the 'upgrade' at the end of July it looks like I have been on UBR04 and speeds are much better 2.39MB/s from blueyonder gamesfile server isnt uncommon, dropping to around 1.5MB/s at peak times (both straight connections without any download managers...) Have just tried it now and it settled at 1.96MB/sec. If I use orbit I get pretty much full speed 24/7. This is only testing the speed of the VM network, but it gives you an idea if your connection is OK.

PM me and I will let you have the name of the woman who seemed to get it sorted out when I complained - you never know she might get it sorted for you too.
