A show of Hands please !

[link to this post]

This side of the forums is hardly active compared to most and slightly disjointed in user reviews

I think it is now time for us VM users to comments on what our services are really like

I leave VM as of the 9th of december after giving my months notice

can we just have a show of hands concerning 20mb users please

1. have you ever received proper 20mb speeds and if so for how long ?

2. how many users experience speeds of around 5mb for most of the day ?

3. How many users experience speeds under 3mb and for how long during the day ?

i will start

1. about for 5 minutes since being upgraded back in august [5 mins in 3 months, [excluding periods I was not at my pc] ]

2. Mainly during the hours of 4pm and 12 am

3. more often than not during the above times as I feel the network is becoming more and more congested

I am paying for a 20MB service as well

Hi

1. I used to get great speeds when first upgraded, usually between 12-18mbit then slowed down to a crawl around the time the ellocoya's were switched on.
(just these last few days i now get full speed again during peak times)

2. yeah the last few weeks it was like the traffic management was on 24/7

3. definately slowed to 1-2mbit speeds after noon.

But things have seriously improved the last few days i can get full speed during peak hours .. not sure what the reasons and think its probably too early to cheer.

1. I get between 18.5 and 20mb at all times currently

2. I've not noticed any traffic management, no periods of 5mb whatsoever

I did have about 8 weeks of poor performance around June-July when my router started to die, but since the new router I've had no more problems other than the occasional e-mail outage as published in VMs pages of problems

My total downloads wouldn't likely trip traffic management, but, with the sheer number of web pages I open with genealogy research, I'd soon notice if anything was wrong

1. 15-20mb ALL of the time.

2. Never get 5mb. Don't download over the 3gb limit so never been activated on the traffic management.

3. 3mb....nope never. Infact I did whilst 20mb was rolled out when I was still on the 10mb connection but this lasted only a while and as soon as I got 20mb...I got 20mb!

full speed during the day (i work from home, so I use it alot during that time).
Not so good during the evenings, but nothing to upset the little time I spend online during the evenings.

VM 20meg
When it works, it's great. When it doesn't, NTL / VM support really suck!
Don't really need WiFi? Consider HomePlug (www.solwise.co.uk)

To question 1 - all the time between 18 - 20mb peek and off peek.
To question 2 - never.
To question 3 - never ever.

VM have been the best connection i have had. I have put a few people on to VM in my area and after a little tweak of settings on their PC they also get between 18 - 20mb.

I must be in one of the areas that just works.

1. never

2. I've seen 5 on a good day for short bursts

3. under 3 for most of the time

I took the VIP package out when it was 10mb, i was getting almost this when it was blueyonder so was happy to sign up for a year when i moved to my new home. I have been disapointed since, what with loseing TV stations and the drop in speed.

1) At the beginning (when it was still NTL) I was maxing my connection out whenever I connected, on or off peak solid 2300+kbps and I was very happy.

2) Hit the AUP a few times (not hard at that speed) and lived with the consequences (only fair). However, recently it seems I have been constantly throttled. never better than 10mbit off peak and 5mbit on peak

3) Never seen it that bad, however, I pay for 20mbit so the current situation was not acceptable, so I quit

I thought, if I am only going to get 10mbit then I might as well pay for it. So I have ordered BE unlimited.

1) They say conservative estimate is that I will get 10-11mbit (could be as much as 15) which is just as good as I have now

2) It is only 18 per month so I save 19!

3) They provide and adsl wireless router, so I can sell my draytek 2900V

4) Static IP is included

5) NO CAPPING!

6) very fast setup. Put the order on at 1:30am this morning, had my activation date by 10am

Getting out of the Virgin contract is not easy (I am NOT paying those funsters 25p per minute just to cancel the account) but found a neat way round it - the terms say that you can cancel you account with 30days notice by letter or email. So I sent an email to the general enquiries address detailing my request (give as much info as possible, username, account number etc). Then when you get the autoreply - you know, your enquiry is important to us, this counts as proof of delivery. Therefore whether they like it or not they MUST cancel your account within 30 days of the autoreply. Bingo, account cancellation and no extortionate phone call fees.

Did I call them funsters yet? Well, I just did it again.

Ban - soon to be ex virgin crappy media customer.

You did call them that, but you should probably remove it as otherwise a mod will delete your entire post, rather than edit out the offending words. They say you can't just obscure swearwords with asterisks
