Ethernet testing

[link to this post]

Virgin now claim my slow speeds are down to Ethernet Port problems on my PC even tho i have 2 ports and the net is slow in both of them.

They r Gigabit ethernet ports, whats the best way for me to test?

make sure the speed and duplex is set correctly - presuming you're connecting them to the cable modem.

That could be the problem.

When i tried some of those settings my connection was stuck at about 10mb but when i reset them back to my defaults i was back to 20mb.

There are guides but there is no one setting fits all and you will have to play around to find what's best for your hardware.

it is a nationwide problem fgs

the problem is that only a small percentage of users are IT literate enough to understand the speeds they are receiving, most folk get slow browser speeds and just up with it, they hardly download and dont even know how to do a speedtest

this is what branson rely s on & as long as he is signing up new customers then tbh he doesnt care about the existing customer base

this isnt just about slow browsing speeds or download speeds, this is also about my connection dropping completely with NO signal coming into the flat.

Well you'll be pleased to hear that I do, and I get my 4Mb consistently.
