Belkin Wireless Router Issues

[link to this post]

I'm trying to solve "another" friends cable broadband problem

The setup is two wireless laptops and a wireless desktop - the problem appears to intermittent where the broadband will work well and all of a sudden everything grinds to a complete halt.

Eventually the wireless tips over and I can't even get the router to allocate an IP address, I've even tried attaching seperate IPs to each of the machines but I still get the same problem.

The router is a Belkin F5D7230-4 Ver 6000UK.

When I try and Ethernet directly into the modem (after I reset it) it won't even allocate the laptop an IP address (the error for limited connectivity comes up in Windows)

The modem is Scientific Atlanta and a VM engineer checked everything on Friday and OK'd everything.

A full reset gets everything up and going again but 15 minutes it all tips over again!! It's becoming very frustrating as updating the firmware on the Belkin has actually made it worse?

I've told my friend to order a new router which will be a Linksys as that's the only other solution I can come up with.

Can anyone help me?

I seem to have the same issue however I have tried two different Belkin routers a G rated and now an N rated without resolving the problem. Like Juzzy25 I setup the cable router and wireless and managed to connect a few devices. However after quite a short period of time the router stops assigning IP's to the wireless hosts so if you try to connect a new host or disconnect and reconnect an existing host you end up getting the limited connectivity 169.x.x.x ip, or an unable to connect error.
As I thought it was the first router I took it back and got the stronger signal N rated one. But this one has the same problem.
Has anyone else had this problem? Is it Belkin or the Virgin cable modem?

Cheers,

Guy

Try the Belkin UK website for their technical support.

If it is a issue with the router they will replace it free of charge - regardless of how old it is.
