50mb modems?

[link to this post]

My modem is only a DOCSIS 2.0 compatiable product, when the 50mb upgrade goes ahead in my area, in the near future (the UBR is overloaded so they have issued a work order on it to DOCSIS 3.0) will I be able to get the 50mb speed or will I need a DOCSIS 3.0 compatiable modem? If so, what are the modems that Virgin issue out to customers that are 3.0 compatiable.?

From the CEO's most recent conference call with Analysts he stated that the DOCSIS 3.0 roll out will be initially reserved for 20 mbps and 50 mbps customers with others using the current equipment and network.

I believe that you will require a new modem if and when you are on DOCSIS 3.0 wideband network.

You will probably not get 50 mbps immediately unless VM comes up with a trial in your area.

Personally, I would not worry about these things - that's the job of VM.

Out of interest, where is your area?

Poole, Dorset, they are speeding up the roll out due to the announcement of the other Fibre by sewerage network, H20 on Bournemouth.

Where does the fibre termination device reside - in the john perhaps?

This concept goes back at least two decades. Perhaps it has been done quietly in London where most of the water supply has been either relaid or re-lined with plastic.

Good to have some competition around.

The weather is great for you this weekend - have fun.

I've read that both the Ambit D3.0 and Surfboard SB6120 are candidates.

Hey, there's aways the chance that VM will be ahead of the curve and go for one of these...
