imac and virgin

Could someone point me to ? a walkthrough of setting up my imac with cable Virgin's netgear wgr614v9. I.m not massively computer literate but I got as far (after 6 hours) of being told that I was connected to the internet and getting as far as the choose a username page of the registration process before being repeatedly kicked off. (it was too late then to ring the virgin helpline and I'd already had 2x20 mins in a Q for 10 seconds of advice). I couldn't view any other pages at that time but presume you can't till you've registered. (I have authorised the modem_

I just plugged my CM into the router, laptop into the router and away I went.

I just connected the iMAc to the virgin supplied modem, switched the modem on and waited for the lights to steady, then switched on the iMac. It just worked. Sorry if this doesn't help!
