I presume you've taken a look at the modem stats? Just to get a feel for any issues with the cable connection itself?

I'm not completely clued up with cable compared to ADSL, but there's some stats available on the cable modem if you go here:

http://192.168.100.1/CmDnstream.asp

An entry called 'uncorrectable codewords' is present - I guess this is similar to error correction on ADSL lines - and if substantially high, might indicate line problems?

Just me 2ps worth.

I'd be tempted to find some people in your street / immediate area also on 50Mb to see if they are having similar problems.

When I moved to this house I was stuck on 1/2Mb ADSL as BT said I could get no more.
I ended up sticking around 100 letters through doors in / around my street asking them if they'd mind helping by checking their phone numbers on the BT "speedguess" site and popping back in through my door. I got maybe 10 replies and most said 4-5Mb, but 2 or 3 of my immediate neighbours said 1/2Mb.... got BT to look into it and found a fault in the cab on the corner, and we then got 4-5Mb too.

If you can be bothered to make the effort it may help either show it's a local problem, or that others near you are fine meaning it's your kit.

Your upstream transmit power from the last set of stats you posted was marginal, if something happened to cause a change in the return path it might have pushed you over the edge and caused the loss of service. Removing the attenuator would have gotten rid of its' insertion loss on the return path and might have made the difference.

This is what you get for saying in a different thread about how good your service was and how good tech support have been tongue
