Tracert request...

Hi all. I'm helping someone out with a wierd website connection issue. The site is www.rgtperrybarr.co.uk, which simply isn't browseable, although I can successfully look it up, and a tracert stops about 3/4 of the way. Here is the tracert from the problem connection...

We're only a hop or two away from glory but it's got me foxed. Ineterested to see if this is specific to my friends connection or not. TIA!

Two different routes. Looks like whatever intrusion protection device catalyst2 are using is blocking one of the connections.

I tried from one of our servers. Using a UDP trace, it gets stuck at the same place but using a ICMP trace, it completes.

Right, upon further investigation the issue only occurs when we're connected via the router (both wired & wireless). It's a Belkin N jobbie. When hooked straight in to the cable modem we get on just fine.

I can't find any other websites that don't work - just this one. Why would a tracert to a website fail part way through when connected through the router but not otherwise?....

Thanks for that Matt. I have since been on Catalyst2's forums and had a quick flick through the "my website on Catalyst2" section and none of the websites hosted by Catalyst2 are accessible from this connection.

I'd raise it with them and ask them to run reverse traces. They don't have a looking glass so I can't link to that and run it without raising it.

It's a long shot but it might be worth updating your router's firmware.
VM identified a problem of sporadically dropped connections with a specific range of Belkin routers a year or two ago and used to have notes offering a fix on their website (at http://www.virginmedia.com/help/belkin.php). Unfortunately the page was removed during the site overhaul...

also he can check for and disable ids firewall on router if on.
