Is Virgin throttling 50MB

[link to this post]

Is Virgin throttling 50MB.

I have just gone to download some stuff of newsgroups for the first time in weeks and found my connection downloading at a constant 1 MB/s.

Speedtests all come back at a little over 51000kbs

So are they now throttling the usual usenet ports.

Thanks

I had some odd slow downs recently, I'm sure it's not the news host..

it would fit VM's logic to turn this on in uncongested areas before congested areas.

Someone at work is having a very bad time using a VPN link with the office network using Virgin Media. They are finding it very slow despite getting reasonable speed test with standard internet. Is this a common problem?

Virgin have introduced traffic management on all of its internet services (including 50mb and 100mb when its launched). Its mainly targetting P2P and Newsgroups so expect to see an affect on these applications.

The traffic management is only supposed to be active between noon and midnight, but my Newsgroup speeds have been affected at all times of the day, and my speeds are nowhere near as stable as they used to be.

With regards to VPN, I tried this and the speeds were awful, I ran a speed test and got a speed of 500kbps!

Last night I pulled a load of headers on Astraweb over SSL on 563 - Bounced around 20-30Mb
Changed to port 443 and is solid a shade over 53Mb.
