Getting a propery connected

Hi folks,

A friend of mine is moving into a new property next week and is looking at his options for broadband.

From what he tells me his next door neighbours have connections to Virgin cable but the property he is moving into hasn't got it. He's spoken to someone at Virgin and they say that he can't get Virgin cable or the Virgin ADSL (looking at the distance from the exchange it's about 1.2 miles driving so I wouldn't have thought the line would be that long).

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knew anyone who could possibly look into this further? I've heard stories of engineers being able to take a connection off a neighbours connection (although I gather it was a more temporary measure). I just thought maybe the engineers could run a cable to the cabinet if he could get hold of someone in Virgin who doesn't just read off a script.

Anyone with a BT phone line (of reasonable length) can get Virgin ADSL, or any other ISP's ADSL for that matter.

And they can't take a look and work out why it's not available when it is next door.
When they make contact, explain the situation and see what they can do.

I've done a postcode search on SamKnows and I believe it's the Torquay exchange.

Yep, this is what I was thinking, I mean previously he was living a good 2 or 3 miles away from the exchange and got a connection (not a great connection but it was a connection). This is what makes me think that the person he spoke to at Virgin might not have been so clued up.

If you use SamKnows' Exchange Mapping option, you should be able to see the speeds other residents get close to your friend's new home.

Ahh his property isn't listed, still putting in his postcode suggests he could get about 13Mbit.

I've suggested O2 to him now as he's an O2 customer on his mobile.

I wouldn't recommend O2 because of their traffic management.
