Speedtest locations are generally more important in places like America, where your local node will be the best location for the throughput test.

They are important in the UK on the faster packages as not all are capable of reliably delivering 50Mbps+ (or sometimes even 30Mbps). I know from personal experience that London and Birmingham are fine.

Does anyone from Virgin Media read these posts in a public forum? 1.7Mb download speed is pathetically slow!

No.

They have their own support forum staffed by second level techs. Takes several days to get a response though. http://community.virginmedia.com/
