100mbit and Speedtests

Got upgraded to 100mbit today however the service has been a slow especially browsing. Contacted Virgin who connected to my PC remotely and tested the speed using their internal speedtest site. Their internal speedtest showed 102mbit download and about 4.72mbit upload.

Using any other speedtest site such as Speedtest and Thinkbroadband then I get a completely different value... between 19mbit - 35mbit. Which is right?

They all can be right,as the other testers will require Virgin Media to have good links out onto the internet too.

Tried downloading some files from machines inside the VM network, to check the figures from their tester?

Thanks I downloaded the x86 server iso from the Ubuntu page and got about 11.2mb per second download speed... It really was quite quick....

I find the namesco and speedtest.net Maidstone Custodian Data Centre give good results.

Max i've ever got from this site was 97.2mbps which is the highest it's ever gone for me - still brill

Tried the namesco one and I got 99383kbps....which is fantastic! I'm impressed. Could the earlier results be the result of traffic management from Virgin?

Congestion on a UBR would also affect stuff on the virgin internal network.
