Superhub wireless range

I have just made the switch from BT FTTC to 100MB Virgin. The install went smoothly, however the wireless range on the Superhub is noticeably poorer than the BT Home Hub. Admittedly the hub is in a different location to my previous Home Hub, but I would still expect wireless coverage in my typical 3 bed semi.

Would people recommend running it in modem mode with a different router or would a wireless access point be a simpler fix?

The homehub has very good range. Actually better than some £100+ routers.

You could link your homehub to the superhub & use it's wireless

We had similar problem - poor signal upstairs from superhub for wife's laptop whereas previous (O2) wireless was OK. Careful checking showed it was just down to position of the hub. Now hard-wired!

The Superhub is well known for it's useless wireless. If the distinctly low budget routing capabilities meet your needs that there is no need to splash out on a new router and run it in modem mode as a TP-Link wireless extender should fix that at lower cost than a full blown router. If you need a decent router though then modem mode is the way to go.

How much do you want to spend?
TP-Link routers are cheap and cheerful;
I have a Billion BiPAC 7800N, which I think is very good - but it costs £several...

If the homehub did the job well. Why splash out on something new? As I said earlier you can link the homehub to the superhub.

Don't put the superhub in modem only mode...
You need to plug an ethernet cable from the superhub into the homehub.
Turn off DHCP on the homehub, which means the superhub will handle this.

Great... Cost is zilch.

I had a homehub 3 for a while and it wouldn't work on cable - the firmware required it to go through a PPPoE style auth before it could aquire an IP. It may work connecting LAN to LAN.

The Home Hub had good coverage, but I did suffer from wireless dropouts regularly. I am not sure whether this was the internet connection dropping or the wireless itself - I think it was the wifi as I wouldnt be able to connect to the wireless during the drops.

I may try this again, but have a feeling I may have the same issues, albeit with better wireless coverage
