emails not deleting off server **solved**

I am trying to sort out my fathers email on Virgin cable.
He has a PC with Linux Mint on it (as he ruined XP) so the email client is Thunderbird.
The emails arrive at the client fine, but they dont delete off Virgins servers. I found this out when emails stopped, so i logged on his account by web mail and saw there was over 10,000 emails in the inbox!

There are tick boxes in the email client to delete after dowloading but these do not seem to work. It is set up with pop3.

Any ideas folks?

watch for error messages suggesting it hasn't completed the transaction. Might have to set up logging :-

sorted it i hope. seems virgin use a version of gmail, so it has to be set in web mail...
