SH2(N) V2.01.03

I see Virgin have recently released some new firmware for its DOCSIS 3.0 Hub's, I also see this has attracted some criticism on their forums with some issues regarding modem mode and some other things... however...

I've noticed that the BQM that has been running on a connection for some time now seems to be showing more jitter maybe...

I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed any changes to their BQM's that are ping a SH2 in Router Mode!

A sample of the ping change can be found here! I think the update happened sometime just after 3 PM, I'm also unsure of the two packet drops after that.

Also since this update I have noticed the Hub now picks up 3 channels.. though it also drops to 1 channels more frequently than before... I'm sure this is just network capacity increases though and nothing to do with Firmware update.

FWIW I've been running V2.01.03 since 21stApril (Trials) 12:37GMT and there was no discernible change to any of my BQM's (except clearly the packet loss associated to reboot after the NMS-TFTP firmware download): > TBB BQM <

If you're in Reading/Thames Valley area then yes an additional upstream, was enabled and we believe associated with the new forthcoming WiFi Hotspot trials.

There's a few <cough> anomalies with that firmware that may affect a (very <cough>) few users so VM Support Forum is best place to pursue/check for further announcements or if you have any "issue" you believe is associated with that f/w release.

If you mean the SH2/VMDG485 as opposed to SH2AC/VMDG490 then yes.
V1.01.11 for VMDG490 will need both a DHCP (unicast/broadcast) "fix" with the added WiFi HotSpot functionality in it's next f/w release, and the timescale for all of this will no doubt cause much wailing,weeping and toy throwing for the kids... and knashing of dentures for us wrinklies!

Or.... VM will actually do it properly this time..... Yeah!
....until they b*gger it all up again for the following SH3.... groan.....

All complete conjecture and wild speculation on my part of course - I only prostitute my self for VM (Trials) - I don't work for them!

Got the new firmware last week, found my BQM the jitter is far less. What are the changes? is it just to get ready for their free wifi?

I had a new connection activated with SH2ac on Saturday, the hub still has v1 firmware on it at the moment and comparing it to another connection locally that DOES have the v2 firmware I can confirm your statement regarding the reduction of jitter...

I think it might be fair to say that Virgin might of pulled the firmware following the complaints, I can't say I've been following it too closely though really...

Both the graphs above are SH2's running in router mode

The SHAC is V1.11 thats the latest version.

The non AC hub has V2 firmware.

Oh yes... so it is.. well Virgin need to fix whatever is causing the major jitter on the SH2ac.
