If your requirement is for download speed (eg you use Steam!) then there is no question. If you use obscure websites and corporate (rather than home user) internet services then other ISPs are available.

Download speed is not the only measure of worth of an internet connection. It is a very common one, and one VM rely on.

I use SIP at home, we don't have a landline. I run an IPSec site2site VPN from my USG to a Cisco ASA for one of my jobs (where I work from home) I administer various servers etc with SSH, RDP, Teamviewer etc. I run various servers including a webserver, email server, plex server etc at home.

Yes, I also use steam a lot. I work from home commonly, but when I don't, I VPN back to home to avoid work mooching at my traffic.

Like I say, my ping is slightly higher than it was on FTTC - around 20ms rather than 8ms or so - but not so much that I notice or care about. I have no packet loss and I get double the single threaded throughput that I would get on FTTC.

What metrics am I missing out on? What services could I be using that would mean I would be better off with FTTC?

It's been the same for as long as I can remember, TBB has a poor quality connection which results in slower speedtests.

Imagine if I were to try and run a speed tester from a home residential connection and then proclaim you have slow internet.

Speedtest.net (including picking a non-VM server), fast.com, ispreview's, all give me 190-220mbit/s any time of day. Likewise where it matters (downloading from steam, uplay, torrents, I have a little 1gbit/s VPS in france), all give a smooth 25+ MB/s.

As said before it's vm's route to TBB that is congested/running hot.

And its not our links that are congesting.

Interesting the other poster said ISPreviews test is running fine, since we supply that test.

The observation over the many years we have been doing this, is that there is this battle around us being wrong with our results followed by lots more people then complaining a few months later when the congestion becomes more widespread.

Just had mine upgraded to 350/20, brand new area with fibre to the wall outside.

PS If look on the broadband speed map there's an erroneous result for Plus Net (146Mpbs download), I suspect that was me when I was running PFsense load balanced on the 28 April.
