S.M.S. FROM V.M. TODAY

[link to this post]

Hi, it's Virgin Media. Good news! We're enhancing the network in your area on Tue 07 Jan which should mean you get the absolute best out of our services. Unfortunately it may interrupt your services on that day, but we should be all done by 6pm. For more info, head to virginmedia.com/plannedwork

I will post back, if anything changes.

Apart from an outage and likely signal level changes nothing will change about the service being sold.

It's an upgrade to increase the available bandwidth on your local cable network ready for Gig1 and future services. The outage will be due to the kit in cabinets supplying your service being swapped out.

EDIT: If you are where I think you are that upgrade is long overdue and works have been in progress across the city for a while now.

Building better networks, not just faster ones.

Hub 3 cut out x 3 this am according to ping monitor.
Connection speed, no change.
Downstream power levels increased, but still well within tolerance.
Huge amount of Pre. & Post R.S. errors showing.
Upstream levels slightly reduced.

11:51 Refreshed data, Pre. R.S. errors reduced to normal, only one channel showing Post errors.

12:30 V.M. Tech. working at local street cabinet, re setting all levels. everything has now returned to normal.

I think the changes are mainly firmware updates for DOCSIS 3.1 ready to roll it out later this year

CMTS updates are done overnight and don't cause power level changes. Texts / postcards like this regarding outages mean physical work in cabinets.
