HUB 5 manual/guide

[link to this post]

Getting connected in a couple of weeks, pretty sure it will be a HUB5 not 5X.

I couldn't find a manual or user guide for the HUB5. Is there really nothing available so I have to wait till I have one to see if it will do what I need in areas like port forwarding, DDNS, firewalling some devices etc?

Nah you're out of luck on that, couldnt find one for the 5 or the 5x but i'd imagine the config options are pretty similar (have the 5x here). Lets just say its quite limited.

You may (or not) have seen i put a few details on my blog about the config settings so it may give you a starting point even if its a different model (details in this thread).

Ridiculous isn't it. Thanks for the blog post. From that and searching for how to do X on the HUB 5 for various X I concluded I want a router.

Yeah its a pain, i had a decent network setup here where everything was divided into their own subnets. Took some undoing ahead of the install. Would do the router thing myself but given how flaky modem mode is with the x i decided not to bother!

For me its a pain as i have loads of physical hardware for different purposes which belong on their own discrete networks, alongside a bunch of containers and VM's and then there are work devices, phones and tablets and the list goes on.

Hope your install and setup went according to plan.

Pretty well. I got an ASUS RT-BE92U and set it up in dual WAN mode falling back to an old HG612 modem on my VDSL line. That let me setup and prove everything I wanted before the install. Install was pretty straight forward. The engineer insisted I connect wirelessly to the HUB5 to prove it worked. I used that connection to set it in modem mode, plugged in the ethernet, and after the HUB5 restarted the router seamlessly switched to the VM connection. Speeds are as expected. At least 1100/100 whenever I tested.

The only problem has been it taking about 3 days and 1.5 hours across 3 phone calls to get them to fix something their end that prevented me logging into 'My Virgin Media'.

Sounds good and i must agree the throughput is as promised and rock-solid - ours was installed in early April so have a few months using it now.

Rather you than me having to call them. Awful to deal with on the phone. We can get into our My Virgin Media thing but nearly every option says "customer excluded" if you click on it.

I know what my bill is so wasn't worth getting hold of them to fix. Does stop me speculatively upgrading the upload though "oh its only another £6 a month even if i dont need it" - so its cost them some money!
