New Virgin install using Openreach kit.

Hi, I've tried to find an answer to this without success.

I've ordered a 1gb Virgin service and been given an engineer install date.

I'm currently with TalkTalk full fibre, we have a little grey box outside the house and the fibre cable travels from that to a telegraph pole close by, inside the house we have something called an ONT I believe and that's connected to an eero router.

There's no Virgin own network around theses parts so that's going to be the same way Virgin enters our house.

My question is, does anybody know if Virgin can use the same equipment that's already emplace/installed, ONT, Outside box etc?
Don't fancy a new hole being drilled either, if there's already one there currently being used by my Openreach kit.

No, Virgin can't use any of the same equipment, you are looking at a new cable from the street, new termination equipment, new router and a new hole in the wall.

Virgin don't serve properties over Openreach AIUI.

If the current TalkTalk is over Openreach, why did you not choose a supplier which runs over Openreach?

No, they can’t. It is a wholly separate network.

That shows it's the Virgin Media XGS-PON (10G) network, and "PIA" means it is delivered via BT ducts and poles, rather than the old cable TV ducts.

Confirms that if you order from Virgin you'll get a new hole in your wall for a new fibre cable, and a new ONT.

Shortsighted, no? You obviously want to change now, which is indicative that you might want to change in future. Are OR [or VM for that matter] going to want to fuse new fibre and install new CSPs and ONTs every time you want to change? I would think it is a plus on the value of the property to have both sets of infrastructure in place.
