You're right, I'll probably swap again when this 2 year deal I've signed upto is over, so maybe having two boxes on the outside (and two holes) will make it easier if I swap back to an Openreach provider.

Given its Virgin Media, don't assume an ONT. Could be the fibre through the wall connects directly to the router ( Hub 5x).

Correct, VM (Nexfibre) use the Hub 5X that has the ONT built in, and this Hub also has no modem mode if that is important. There are, apparently, ways around this lack of modem mode, but it is expensive to implement.

I won't be needing modem mode (I think), I'll only be using their supplied Hub 5X and no other equipment. Thanks.

If you’re on the Nexfibre network, and need to use your own hardware, look at Giffgaff as you get a normal ONT. Lot simpler than trying to use an SFP+ XGS-PON ONT.

This is the interesting point I've been looking for a definitive answer. I read, somewhere, if the Nexfibre is on "VM", then you can't get GiffGaff? It would only be on "native" Nexfibre as VM don't want any other ISP using the VM installation?
I can see the reasoning as VM would have to pay, I assume, for the initial fibre install. Or maybe, it's only the fibre being installed via Project Mustang that would be a no-no to other ISP's?

If you are in a nexfibre area then Virgin Media and GiffGaff are the two ISPs on the network.

In legacy "Virgin Media" areas either coax, RFOG, or Mustang XGS PON then you don't have any other ISP.
