Vodafone - OneDrive/Sharepoint Issue

[link to this post]

I know this will sound weird but just in case anyone has any ideas how to troubleshoot or what it might be.

I have Vodafone Business Broadband - 80:20 at home and office - both are the same config but different towns/exchanges. Even same Wifi Equipment and this problem I see is exhibited on cable o wifi connection.

Basically if I download a file from Sharepoint using Web Client or One Drive sync client the download speed is a magnitude slower on the work connection. Same conditions eg. only person accessing internet. Both connections get almost full speed on Speeedtests (work is actually quicker on speedtests) any other service Dropbox, web browsing is absolutely fine no differences.

There is no QOS - same stock Vodafone fibre router equipment and settings..

Here are some download results which show the difference. this is all day everyday no matter what time of day..

Any ideas genius's out there..

Cheers

There’s your answer. Without an assurance that both have precisely equivalent backhaul, utilisation and contention, time of day etc. it’s not an apples for apples comparison.

What are the actual connection speeds at both sites as shown by the modem or router on your premises?

Sorry I didn't reply sooner - I didn't get a notification. I can't get my Home stats as I use an Openreach white modem thing.

At work we get good stats I Think

Current Rate 79999 kbps 19999 kbps
Maximum Rate 97546 kbps 34808 kbps
Signal-to-Noise Ratio 10.1 dB 15 dB
Attenuation DS1 3.5 dB, DS2 9.0 dB, DS3 14.2 dB US0 2.7 dB, US1 7.4 dB, US2 11.4 dB
Power 12.6 dBm -9.1 dBm
CRC Errors in last 28878 minute(s) 0 746

However, an update I tried something I hadn't before and setup a privacy VPN on my laptop and when I have this activated I get full speed on OneDrive.. Turn off VPN and back to slow speeds.

Does this mean there is some weird routing thing with Vodafone from our Work address?

Try this at your work.

Power off the router for two minutes (this will cause the session to drop on all the bits of kit in the chain) and then power back up.

I've cured a number of issues by advising people to do this (across a number of ISPs so I'm not pointing the finger at anyone)

Also worth ensuring you have the updated OneDrive client on the affected machine.

Go to htps:portal.office.com and sign in with your work ID

Click My Content then cloud files and click Go to OneDrive on the right, click Sync and click the link in the message to download the latest version of OneDrive (it'll push an installer to you, iopen this and you'll see a progress bar while it updates)

Virgin (ADSL) => Namesco => Newnet => O2 => Plusnet => Zen => Newnet => Zen => Freeola => Vivaciti (using O2 Wholesale DSL) => Xilo (C&W Wholesale) => Xilo (O2 Wholesale) => Xilo (TT Wholesale due to O2 Wholesale closure) => Zen LLU =>> ZeN FTTP (Openreach 300 Mbps down, 47 Mbps up)
Router: Fritzbox 7530

Note: I don't lay turf for anyone. astro or otherwise, all views and opinions expressed are my own based on experience.
