Vodafone says that we have 4G where i live, not that it makes any difference to me as my phone do not have 4G on it, a friend of mine came up here and they are on Vodafone and they got 4G, but seemed to have problem with it, anyway not bothered about 4G or 3G when I am home as the phone connects to my home broadband.

I'm with talktalk, no problems at all and I use a TT mobile sim card which uses the Vodafone network and get 4g out here in the sticks; I barely got 3g when using O2 sim. The sim deal is £7.50 now (I got it on offer for £5.50) a month, 3GB data, 1000 mins and unlimited texts.

2014 apparently they switched from Voda to O2, O2 is not bad here, better than EE, which is not difficult.

I would not use Talk Talk either, If I had a choice between BT and Talk Talk it would certainly be BT and I am not that fond of them. Yes, i know that plusnet is owned by Bt, but they are run as a separate company and it was the easiest way to get back onto the network and the cheapest at the time. Now I have more time to look I will look around.

Anyway, Not sure about vodafone myself really, I know they now own the old Bulldog network, which became Cable and wireless. So maybe that would make them have better bandwidth. But not sure if it would make that much difference, look at Talk talk they have LLUY at our exchange and they are still naff.

My Plusnet contract runs out soon, so I am starting to have a look around the problem is I do not really want another long contract.

They simply won't give you the necessary login details should you want to use your own router, though technically you could use the xDSL modem part of the VF router and then piggy back your own router for the wifi/router part.

Thank you. The Vodafone pricing is very attractive if you are already a mobile customer, but making it difficult for you to use your own equipment is very unhelpful.

With my first broadband service I had to buy my own router if I wanted to use one instead of the 'frog'.

Ahhh yes, I remember the frog USB modem fondly (aka Speedtouch modem) on Bulldog broadband donkeys years ago!

As baby_frogmella typed they will not give you the details, not sure if piggy backing will work depends how much control is given to people as you would have to disable DHCP, not sure if that can be done with the vodafone router.
This is why I do not like using supplied routers as they normally have some locked down firmware.
