Upgrading broadband package

[link to this post]

Hi,
If as an existing customer you go from BB basic to Pro2, then decide its not worth it, can you downgrade your package?

Have you asked the provider?

I don't know the answer but think it would be unlikely as most ISPs are happy for you to upgrade at any time (as they get more money out of you) but not the other way around. Don't know if the cooling off period applies when switching packages within contract.

As suggested best speak to them for an official answer, can you post the answer here once you get it as it will help if people search for this.

The "official answer" will be whatever is in the new contract you sign at the time you upgrade. You can't rely on what agents say, unless they can point to a clause in the T&Cs that backs up what they are saying.

The safe answer is - you won't be able to downgrade for 2 years (or whatever the duration is of the new contract you sign).

You can’t rely on what they say, but if there’s a chat transcript and they’ve “mis-sold” you then it can get rather spicy for them - especially once you re-present them with a record of the chat transcript.

Has been my “get out of gaol” card with a rather large well known ISP that promised the impossible / should’ve known better…

You weren't wrong, 14 day cooling off period applies, you can downgrade at any time within the days of "Activation", outside of the 14 days normal cancellation etc rules apply.
