Sipgate VOIP over EE Mobile Broadband

[link to this post]

I have a Sipgate number which works fine when I have my laptop on the Virgin media home broadband connection, but will not work using EE Mobile broadband.

I have the new Kite device on 4GEE, TBB tests show speeds of about 20/11 to 30/17. No changes to the setup, I've swapped between the two connections and each time it works fine with Virgin.

Do I need to do something else to enable the phone via Mobile BB ? I've looked on the Sipgate help but cannot find anything that has helped. I did find that their basic setup told me to enable ports 5060-5060 and I had to change that to 5060-5061 for it to work on Virgin.

Unsurprisingly T-Mobile used to block VOIP. I would expect EE to do the same.

see para 3

They say they allow VOIP, I checked before I bought.

It's been suggested that I may need to set up port forwarding. The EE device isn't on right now so I'll do that next time.

EDIT: No, it already has SIP enabled in the setup.

I know EE have had some serious problms with thier content blocker just randomly blocking stuff and wouldnt be surprised if something is blocking SIP or similar at thier end, is anything else not working (apart from thier website which is particularly poor)??

I would have a chat with thier tech support, that is dial through to the "i have a technical problem" choice on 150 rather than the billing-type team, I had issues with EE recording my data usage far higher than the actual figure and they were REALLY helpful at getting it sorted (I know!!! I expected standard EE uselessness but you get through to some very savvy people if you choose the right route through the menus!)

I thought OFCOM had introduced rules banning the blocking of VoiP on mobile connections.
Is that true, or is it a mismemory/ figment of my imagination?

Of course, OFCOM are not always very good at enforcing their rules ...

It may be the configuration. I don't change any settings on the softfone (X-lite) and it works when I am connected using WiFi on my Virgin Media connection. I have checked that the EE Kite is working and connected by doing TBB speed tests, I can access the config pages but cannot see anything I need to enter there, there is an entry for SIP which is enabled.

I'll try EE on Monday, I've learned not to bother with them at weekends unless I fancy wasting a few hours of my time.

Did you ever get this to work?

My free 100GB Sim arrived but I could not get CSipSimple to register with Sipgate. Works fine via my broadband WiFi.

I've not had the laptop and EE gadget connected since my last post as I've simply been unwell. I'll give it another go in the next few days and perhaps call them to ask for help.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Mini II on Orange. I installed the 3CXPhone app and use Sipgate on that, it works just fine.

Had a play tonight, not solved the issue yet though.

I had the free X-Lite softphone installed but ditched it and put the 3CX one on instead. It worked, as before, on my Virgin media connection. This time I get to dial out, but the call terminates just after dialling.

I also have the situation of wanting to stream audio when I do an 'outside broadcast' for the radio station - I know how tio set it all up, again it works on the Virgin connection - but no go at all on the EE Kite frown

I've left the laptop set up so I can give this another go and perhaps call EE. Not sure what they can do for me though. I've also dropped it on to the EE forum's, see if anyone there can help.

Thanks, do you have 3CX connected direct to Sipgate or it it going via an exchange?

OK, 3CX is direct. I've not been able to play much as I suffer with bad lungs and can't be in the cold long. Playing with the laptop is on the dining room table, away from my gas fire and heated blanket. frown

I've had the heating on as we've had visitors and took a hit more time to play. The Sipgate website tells me to disable SIP ALG, which other sites told me was there specifically to enable SIP trunks. So I've tried it with that turned off. Still not much joy, so I created virtual server ports on 5060 and 5061 - yay! I got the 10000 test line to work and SIP-SIP works, using ID numbers. This is on a EE Kite device,

BUT, calling the assigned 01 number from another phone just cuts off. I've yet to get full calling running. I'll keep on at it though. Now I've got this far I'll probably contact support at Sipgate.

I should really have copied down what settings I'm using - they differ greatly from the 3CX on Android I've been using before. I don't have many issues with SIP, it's just this mobile broadband that's been bugging me. I have 2 Camrivox Flextor 151 ATA's for physical phones at home. No problem with those to normal DECT phones.

Yay, after a long time messing about with settings I've finally got my (multiple!) SIP's connected on my mobile.
I have a few long-standing Sipgate accounts on different exchanges, plus a paid account with A&A. 9 in all smile
I recently upgraded my mobile, now on EE instead of Orange and have a Samsung Galaxy Ace 4. 3CX wouldn't work for me so I looked around and found an app called CSipSimple.
There are a few background settings to fiddle with, such as allowing incoming calls and roaming. But, something is working at last as I can call out and get calls in on all of my lines. The interface is a lot simpler as well.
I have a SIP connected to an ATA at home on the A&A line as I use that for personal calls, thus avoiding all the PPI claims companies. The good news is that that line rings on the home phone and the mobile at the same time, which was a bonus.
It's taken some time but please to say it's now resolved.

I have CSipSimple on a Galaxcy Ace 2.

When I start it without WiFi I get a little message:

"Selected network route not allowed with current settings you have setup"

This happens before I try to register any of my VOIP accounts, and with both Vodafone contract and Three PAYG Sims. The accounts only work if I have WiFi enabled. I also had to make a change to my Technicolor 582n so that it would pass port 5060.

I just realised, I didn't solve my original problem after all. I have these working on my phone, wifi and main network, but not the mobile broadband still. I'll have to get the laptop out again smile

There's a setting in csipsimple in the Menu/Settings/Network where you can specify for incoming and outging calls whether you use WiFi/3G/GPRS et al. I have mine set to WiFi only for incomng & outgoing (so that I only make VOIP calls over WiFi and not over 3G et al so it doesn't use data allowance) and I get the above message each time I load csipsimple (and use it as reminder to enable WiFi to make/receive the VOIP call)

Thank you very much. I kept looking for the settings but failed to find them.

Now I have found them, it looks like I can use Sipgate to make and receive calls using a Vodafone contract Sim. The receiving phone rang when I tried a call. Voipfone and DiscountVoip have also registered. My A&A account fails to register, there maybe something I can change.

Account Migration Issue

My 'Basic' account was 'migrated' mid-May with no notice. I could then no longer log in on the 'old' account. Despite clearing cookies, the browser (and the attic...) I could not get access to the 'new' account and could not top up the account which was nearing zero.

I think 'support' was a bit stretched at Sipgate and no working answer was forthcoming. In desperation I rang the 'team' support number and it was instantly sorted.

In case anyone else has this problem, it appears that the 'hiccup' was caused by my ticking the 'remember me for 14 days' option on the 'old' site.

Latrsrt UPDATE:

Sipgate confirm that the migratioin is causing problems for some, and they need to request a password change. Logging in with the new SHOULD correct the problem.

Secondly, they confirm that SipgateFFX will NOT work with the new system but they say they are working on that.

Personally I find the new format less intuitive than the old, but I guess that's progress.................!
